Gladiatrix III - Week 39 Update

Alone in the Everdark and separated from her companions, Sierra finds a secluded spot to bathe and wash the dirt, blood and grime from a previous battle off of her. But this place is not so secluded after all as she is being watched.

    2. What Rebby said. :)

I like the Mindflayer stuff too. I hope it's a case of her resisting mentally at first, but just giving in due to the extreme mental powers of the MF and his nefarious vices.

    1. I figured this took place before the last few updates, thus explaining how she was captured.

    2. This actually takes place after the Everdark arena scenes. She's moving on to new things in the land down under.

  9. Hey! Just curious as to when we can expect to play the full Gladiatrix 3? Will there be any previews available? I'm dying here! Lol thanks :)

    1. I'll be posting a request for beta testers hopefully by the end of March. Any of the commenters on the blog are welcome to beta test. Once that passes then I'll post the full release on the vault and neverwinter nexus. Since we're that close to beta testing it probably doesn't make much since to post another preview.

End of March is just a target and not a deadline. I try not to make deadlines because then I end up pressuring myself and that takes all the fun out of designing. Thanks for hanging in there :)

    2. No problem! I know I speak for us all when wI say we really appreciate your work. I would actually pay for your gladiatrix mods to be honest.

I would love to beta test!

Also, do you plan on making any more mods or continuing this series? Thx! :)

    3. Hi. G3 will be the end of this series. I don't know if I'll be making any modules after this or not. If I do it will probably be a much more leisurely pace. Maybe something like smaller chapter modules. Or possibly see if there are any other newer games to build on. I just don't think there is anything that is as user friendly as NWN or has as much content to utilize.

    4. Well, there's Dragon Age. From what I've heard its toolset is even more powerful when it comes to creating content but it's not even close to NWN in terms of how user friendly it is and how time consuming it is. That's prime reason we don't see any big DA modules. It literally takes a huge team of people to create as much content as maybe a single person could in NWN toolset.

I do hope you keep creating content for NWN though, as I've really enjoyed your modules so far. In March/April we'll get both Gladiatrix and first chapter of Demonheart and I'm excited for both.

  10. Yeah, sadly the first Neverwinter Nights still seems to be the best toolset for people to use for this sort of thing. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I kinda think no one has made a game and toolset like it again because hobbyists easily making their own large, free games is kind of bad for business.

I bet after Gladiatrix you are going to be pretty burnt out but I would certainly be happy to play any other mod you end up making. From playing the Gladiatrix series and following it's development it's clear that you have a lot of talent and have learned a lot from the experience.

And of course it's always fun to have something good to play while we're all waiting for that big thing that we've ALL been waiting for: the final updated version of A Dance With Rogues part 2.

  11. Actually, in some ways, i prefer Gladiatrix series than ADWR.

ADWR was great, no doubt about this. But i have found ADWR gameplay quite boring during some parts. That's probably because i'm not really in the rogue gameplay. Have to spend too much time slowly moving from point A to point B, always hidden and not a lot to do.

The sex content in ADWR was quite redondant, and from my taste, there is too much of it. In Gladiatrix there is a lot of teasing that will lead to sex, or not. And most sexual situation feel like "unique". In my opinion it's much more balanced.

Gladiatrix is certainly shorter at this time and probably more linear. But i find it more replayable.

Also, Valine seems to have disappeared and i'm not sure this big updated version of part2 will happened. She already had done a very great job and put a lot of work in it, so better be grateful and accept it. Fallyn is doing a really great job with her mods and she is really active. Seems more promising to me.

By the way that's just my opinion.

    1. Wow, thanks! ADWR is the flagship of adult modules, so to even be considered in the same league is a high compliment.

    2. Since I happen to love rogue gameplay, I can't disagree more. I also liked that ADwR had multiple ways to solve quests, so you could play it through entirely differently.

As far as the sec in it being redundant, seeing most of it was utterly avoidable, *shrug* I don't see how. At least not beyond relationship sex.

That said, I enjoy both mods for what they are. I too wish Part 2 of ADwR would've been finished, and it's kind of sad the two parts look like they'll remain out of sync. But Gladiatrix is a fun mod.

Not what we need is an adult mod for mages. ;)

    3. I actually find it a bit unfortunate that my modules are compared to ADWR. I know a lot of people play my modules hoping for an ADWR clone and that's not what it is. Some people have even dismissed my series because they wanted the same game play that ADWR had. I do really appreciate those who play both series and still like my modules for what they are.

The biggest criticism I get is the linearity, and I understand that and agree. I think part of that is I consider myself more of a storyteller than a game designer. Some people will complain, "hey, you made my character get captured with no alternative to avoid it!" The problem, from my perspective, is that getting captured is a critical part of the story and the events in the rest of the module depend on that.

Another wish, along similar lines, is having a half dozen conversation options to choose from frequently. I can honestly say that writing conversations takes me the longest. I can easily spend hours writing just one conversation, particularly if scripts or animations are involved. The more choices that are added, the more testing that has to be done to make sure everything is linking up. I do try to add choices, but I usually reserve it for when it's really necessary, such as a decisive moment.

Ultimately, to deliver the kind of vast role-playing experience that a lot of people crave, it would take me until 2015 to build it. I have to balance that with the number of people who are anxious to play G3 NOW and don't want to wait. Plus, I don't want to be building a module for that long :)

What I can promise in G3 is a module that is almost as long as the first two put together. There will be two very distinct endings as your character has to decide her ultimate destiny. It's not going to necessarily be a "good path" vs. "bad girl path". It's going to be morally ambiguous and I hope to have the player carefully questioning either option. It's also not just going to be a cutscene ending. You will be participating in a war with whatever side you've decided to go along with.

I've also opened the door for more intense sexual encounters, which has been a common request. I still always leave a way out for those who don't want that. You can technically finish the series a virgin, but who would want to? Be prepared for all the stops to be pulled out.

Anyway, this is just a bit of my perspective on why I build my modules the way I do and why they differ from ADWR. I really think G3 will eclipse G1/G2 and be even more enjoyable for people who like this series.

Oh, and I second the vote on adult mage modules. Count me in :)

    4. Reyne,

I NEVER expect any module to be 'like' another. That's not fair. Anymore than it is to expect any two authors to be similar. And that certainly wasn't what I meant. I think I said I appreciate both of these for what they are. Please accept my apology if I gave you that impression. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I think the 'modular' nature of ADWR is appropriate to a rogue, where you can level a character wildly differently by how you mix classes or even skills. Note, I'd still say it was essentially a linear mod. Just certain parts could be done 'out of order' or via different routes.

Gladiatrix being a warrior mod, the challenges are going to be met, typically in an aggressive fashion. Though you've provided elements with alternatives well enough, IMHO. I would say Part 2 was markedly superior in quality to part 1, but that only means you've grown as a creator. Most would say that the 1st part of the Aielund Saga was relatively weak compared to the rest, as well. And I would say that series is the pinnacle of mod making in the community.

I would think a mage mod would be 'modular' as well, even more so than ADWR. I would almost have thought Citadel was going to be that mod. But the character development never got finished. So while it's exceptional in many ways, it feels hollow at the end. I have my own ideas for a mage-oriented story. But I have 'no' building talent, I'm strictly a writer. :P

    5. Oh, I certainly didn't take your post as a negative. I'm actually glad that you and a lot of others like the series even though it isn't a replica of ADWR.

I've never played Citadel. I LOVE Aeilund saga, but I never got around to playing the last part. I also want to play the Prophet series and a couple of new modules that are out. I haven't had a chance to actually PLAY a module in so long. I've got some catching up to do when I finish G3!

    6. I like Prophet. Baldecaran is one of my favorite builders. Honor Among Thieves is the other very good rogue module.

I know something of the time requirement in building, as I was involved in writing story/settings/quests for 2 separate PWs. (One based on a world I had intended to write a novel for. The other on an alternate earth I've written five for :P ) Even though I did almost no scripting, it still was a serious time sink. One I had to give up if I was going to keep writing.

  12. As a huge fan of ADWR, I can tell that you don't need to worry about your modules, FallynRayne. I like, no, I LOVE both ADWR and Gladiatrix for different reasons. ]

Linearity and a half dozen conversation options never bother me. (Hey, even ADWR Part II got the linearity comments a lot, right?) As long as the module is enjoyable, has a good story, strong characters (that players like); I don't see why those two should let you down.

Like I said, ADWR and Gladiatrix are two different modules that should not be compared to one another. I'm sure both have their own fan base.

The only complain I might have (from G1 & G2) is lack of sex encounters. Lol. But knowing that you will provide more intense sexual encounters in Part III, I'm looking forward to them. Hahah.

Btw, in Gladiatrix II it was hinted that Cypher has a feeling for the protagonist. Will there be some 'action' with him in Part III?

    1. Yes, there's a possibility for action with Cypher. It's even in the G3 preview that is posted. Link is in the upper right of this blog page if you want to try it out. Thanks for the kind words!

    2. I've tried it. No sex journal for having sex with Cypher? How many are there in Gladiatrix II?

      Delete
    3. I haven't added the sex journals for G3 yet. I will be adding those and Cypher will be one of them. I count nine possible journal entries in G2. It isn't possible to get them all because some of them are written on the same scenario but based on whatever action you took. I think it's only possible to collect about six journal entries in G2.
