Gladiatrix III - Week 29 Update

You Pick the Quest

I'm looking for a main side quest on the way to the elven lands. Pick the one that you would like to see the most and enter it in the comments section. Whichever is favored the most will be added to the module.

A guild of harpers have noticed that a horde of cyclops are moving between elven and human lands. They are planning an invasion but it is unknown who they are planning to invade. Will you be able to help the harpers stop these hideous creatures or are you too late?

Strange sounds occur at night in a village along the way to the elven lands. There have been many ghost stories told about the source of the wailing. The naysayers say that it is just the wind howling through the trees. Others have concocted ghost stories surrounding the strange noises, but now the ghost stories have come to life. The haunting screams can no longer be denied as the terrified villagers now suffer sleepless and agonizing nights because of it. Your investigation leads you to a banshee trapped in the crypts. Legend has it that she was a beautiful young elven woman tortured and buried alive by a cruel lover. Cursing the gods for her misfortune, she now haunts the lands with her agonizing wails. If you confront her, do you risk losing your sanity?

You enter the tower of a dark and twisted wizard. His macabre collection includes a brain that has been disected from its body, yet kept alive. Another poor soul has literally been turned inside out to satisfy the wizard's ghoulish delight. What might he have in store for you if he finds you in his tower?

Which quest do you choose? Tell me in the comments
  • Cyclop invasion
  • The wailing banshee
  • The dark and twisted wizard tower

  1. I have to go with the wailing banshee

  2. Seems like the wailing banshee is the most interesting. The dark and twisted wizard tower is a close second though, is there more detail about the quest?

  3. wizards tower.
is it only me that thought the brain in the jar seemed cool?
how about a quest of a body for it? wouldn't that make him grateful and become a new ally?

  4. No fair!! I want all THREE!!!!

But if I have to choose, than I pick

    Wizard's Tower

The Cyclops one sounds like a combat adventure, and we've got a few of those already in the module, so I felt the other two have more interest as a sidequest. The banshee one does sound interesting, and would tie in with the elves, maybe even being able to persuade/help the banshee into giving up her hate to become a friendlier ghost who'll put in a good word with the elves. But your last sentence tease in the tower plot, and the gothic/horror potential of a wizard tower is just too much curiosity for me to not vote for . . . all I can say is meow.

  5. The banshee and the wizard's tower of course! Sad love stories and evil wizard tales keep the fantasy worlds going!

  6. Tough call between the Dark Wizard / Banshee. Both could have interesting possibilities. Probably lean towards the Evil Dark Wizard one. He could also possible want evil, dark, sexual shenanigans as well. (yes, my one track mind refuses to leave that one track.) Heh.

    So Dark Wizard for me.

  7. All sound like they could be a lot of fun, but I think I'd go for the wizard's tower as my first choice (probably followed by the banshee).

  8. I'd love all 3 as well! But since I have to pick, I'll put them in preferred order:
    1. Wailing Banshee
    2. Wizard's Tower
    3. Harpers

They all sound fantastic, and I'd be happy to play any of them. I'm so looking forward to this mod!

  9. They all sound very good, so is a tough choice. I would have to go with Banshee as my top pick, but any would be fun I am sure. I can't wait for the next installment of a very good story and adventure.

  10. I'll go for
"The dark and twisted wizard tower"

  11. Wizard's tower, of course. I just love weird things.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I personally hope for a tie between Banshee and Wizard Tower ;-)

my first pick would be the banshee though, followed closely by the wizards tower

  13. I'll probably go for the wailing banshee. Love a good crypt dive, and it sounds like there might be some interesting story to go with it.

  14. I would pick the Wizard Tower because, I get so tired of the quest to help the spurned lover crap, now I have to run around making noises and killing things lol there seems to be a wider range of things you could do with the wizards tower quest line

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'd go with wizard tower. Morbid madmen quests are always entertaining, and 'macabre collection' seems to give the quest a very flexible nature in terms of interesting things to do and see.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The banshee sounds interesting. You might get more responses if you made a poll.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wizard's tower sounds fun and the cyplopses would be my second pick.
I'm really getting utterly bored by "undead woman spurned by lover haunts area". It's so cliché, I'd bet it has lurked for and fed upon other clichés, like a vampire does upon mortals, to empower itself with an extra dash of cliché-ness.
Not that the wizard's tower isn't a bit of that, too, but it simply seems more appealing, because of the potential. Or of my love of mad science and disembodied brains.

  18. Wizard, wizard, wizard

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm for whatever one has the highest possibilty for sexy shenanigans.

By any chance, is that brain-in-a-jar being forced to watch bad movies?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm going for the Dark Wizard's Tower. Mind games are always the most fun. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I hope to see all 3 really!
They could all end up so great but the name alone helps me pick this one, The dark and twisted wizard tower, just sounds like a real adventure.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The dark and twisted wizard tower

    ReplyDelete
  23. The dark and twisted mad wizard's tower!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd prefer wizard tower but anyone you choose I'm sure will be fun. Go Fallyn Rayne!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can the boss of the wizard tower be a sexy, pervy, female wizard?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm going to roll with whatever wins.

For anyone having problems with this module and others, not loading properly with some textures missing, I discovered why this was happening (for me at least). The order of the CEP was wrong. I've never had this problem before, having already successfully played these modules with the latest CEP installed until I'd uninstalled my nwn game. I think that re-installing my nwn platinum game might have set things up wrong. Once I'd re-ordered the CEP, which in my case was both 'name' and 'descending' order clicked, the game loads without any problem, and the textures are back.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sorry. That was me posting about the loading problems. It's "ascending" order, not "descending" in my case.

  28. I'd like to see The wailing banshee or The dark and twisted wizard tower. The Harper's are generally a good group, and for those people playing darker characters, well, why would they help the Harper's?

Personally I feel the Banshee story could have the best outcome, but I am kind of curious what could happen to the PC if the wizard found them in the tower, which is why I chose those two.

    1. I have a hard time with the Harpers just because I don't see the need to bring Forgotten Realms entities into he story. Rayne's already done well defining her own world, I think it would hurt its authenticity to borrow this.

  29. I'd like to see the wizards tower as well, wailing banshee also sounds cool

  30. When it comes time to import into G3, will you lose everything that's not in your inventory from G2? I assume so, but you might've found a way to keep your amassed horde of goodies.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you use your character from G2 then she'll come with all the inventory she had. NPC's like Tessa and Landon will have a new set of inventory.

      Delete
    2. I'm not sure I'm clear on that. Do you mean that stuff stored at your home in Mystwood isn't carried over? If you don't have it on your actual person at the end of G2; it's gone?

      Delete
    3. yes. when saving a character, you will keep everything that is on that character, anything else will be gone

      Delete
    4. It's the same as pretty much every other mod out there. If you want to keep something, have it on your character when you export them from G2, then use that same character in G3, and they'll have the items. You lose everything that you stored everywhere else in the game, including the items in your home.

  31. Wailing banshee for me, followed by dark wizard.

I like it when there are some historical exploration in a module. It makes a story feel more real, even if the exploration was about something centuries ago and not directly related to the story at hand.

With a banshee there is some hope for a little lore, even if it was of a personal kind. Who knows what we may learn from her or her surroundings. Maybe her "cruel lover" was actually her foe in reality?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, sorry. I'd like to see the... banshee.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So unfair, Banshee it is, cause the story seems most interesting and shaped of them all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My choice would be the Wizard's Tower, more possible outcomes I believe.

    Second would be the Banshee.

    Never did like the Harpers.

  35. I would like to see Banshee.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'd like the Banshee simply because we already did the 'molested by evil wizard thing' in 2 and i'd rather be molested by a beautiful elven woman's spirit.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Eh, I didn't see that the same as this. I'd see the Banshee as closer to the whole 'woman buried in the crypt' thing that WAS done in the last mod.

      Delete
  37. My choice would have to be the dark wizard tower.
Does it have a lot of sexual encounters? lol.

the second choice would be the banshee. As for the harpers, combat kind of quest = boring.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would pick the dark wizard tower because I feel like there can be more interesting events for the character.

The banshee one would be second because I guess you can see flash backs as to what happened to the elf.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My vote in these cases always goes to 'whichever you feel most inspired by at the time and will lead to more meaningful dialogue, choices, and interaction with and between companions'. That's because these are the things I like in a module (or most games really), hackfests are no fun to me if I'm not hacking for a reason :)

With that in mind, it *sounds* like the wizard and the banshee would be good, both of them having the potential for spooky oddity and quirky shenanigans, but only you can know what you had in mind for the cyclops story.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'd like cyclops or wizard....but i expect some rough sexual encounter there..

  41. I'm facing a wierd bug here... Every time I enter a forest (ANY forest) there is a chance that my game crashes, and a big one... I have to turn off the notebook by the button. Now I'm stuck in Beltran Forest.

My notebook is good enough for this game (in fact, I already finished this game on a waaay lesser machine), can play Skyrim and Farcry 3 at max config. And why only on forest? That makes no sense at all. Any thoughts on it would be apreciated

    ReplyDelete

    1. Odd. Try another mod that has a forest area and see if the game crashes again.

    2. The forest crash is a known bug, which was supposedly fixed. The discussion and a possible fix is in here: http://fallynrayne3.blogspot.com/2012/09/gladiatrix-iii-preview-is-available-to.html?showComment=1348191839612#c5849010513655324805

    3. I guess that's not the same problem. This fix is for the Forrest of Sorrows, while I'm stuck at Beltran Forest.

  42. Oh and thats on Gladiatrix I off course

  43. I posted a reply on the Gladiatrix nwnvault page for your forest graphics problem. I'll also post it here in case you didn't see it there:

I haven't heard of that specific problem before. There could be a hak conflict. I recommend putting everything that is in your hak folder into a backup folder and only leaving the CEP and Gladiatrix haks that are necessary to play this module in your hak folder. The hak list is in the readme file. Also, clear your overrides folder and make sure that you are using the latest nwn update. I believe it's 1.69. There could also be a conflict with your video card not reading forest graphics properly. I don't know what video card you have but you could consider downloading updates to your video card drivers (this you will have to do at your own risk. I can't be held accountable if the video driver upgrade messes other things up) Hope this helps.

    1. Everything was empty before I installed Gladiatrix because thats the first mod I downloaded after installing NWN. Override, Hak and CEP are clear, and I got 1.69 critical upgrade. Video card is also okay (download the latest version last week).

I forgot to say in my original post that this happened twice before, on the very first forest in the game (the one in the castle, with the stableboy scene). Now I've tried several times but I can't go beyound the beginning of Beltram Forest

    2. Hmm. Maybe try playing with the graphic settings in the game menu? Possibly turning off grass, reflective water, skies or trying a different resolution? Maybe reinstall the gladiatrix and CEP hak files? Something could have gotten corrupt during download or unzipping. Also, does it happen on forest settings in other modules like someone suggested?

    3. Ok, played Kunoichi which is mainly a forest setting to the end, and nothing happened. I have a request, though... Could you give me any character leveled and equiped (based in Gladiatrix settings) so I can import it in Gladiatrix II? I already played the first one and while it bothers me to skip it, all I want really is to play the second one, but I unistalled NWN some time ago and lost all my characters. Thanks in advance

  44. I like the mad wizard side quest. It look like is gonna be crazy.

  45. you had me at "brain disected"

    ReplyDelete
  46. I must say it would have to be the Banshee... nothing against the cyclops, but it definitely looks like a combat oriented quest, as for the wizard, well it is my second choice, but the banshee seems to be a much more interesting tale.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The macabre wizard tower!

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Banshee sounds great ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Gotta go with the dark wizard...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Dark wizard's tower sounds fun! My second choice would be the banshee plot...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wizard's tower! :)

  52. The Banshee quest I have to say I would like to see the most.
